A successful neighbourhood health centre
LOCATION: LEEDS | PROJECT AREA: OPERATIONAL ESTATE MANAGEMENT | PROJECT STATUS: ONGOING
Part of Leeds’ LIFT estate, The Reginald Centre has become a hub of activity in the Chapeltown area of Leeds, reintegrating healthcare into the social fabric of the community, and bringing more staff and resources into the places people live.
Welcome to The Reginald Centre
This neighbourhood health centre is a hub for the community, reintegrating healthcare into the social fabric of Chapeltown in Leeds
The challenge
One of two ‘joint service centres’ in the city, it is a one-stop-shop for healthcare, including a range of health services anchored around general practice. Services include a GP, community paediatric services, child and young person mental health services, weight loss and wellbeing.
The centre meets population needs holistically, looking at healthcare and wellbeing as part of a wider network. The council has a community hub in the centre where residents can access library, employment, housing and benefits services. Activities are also run there aimed at increasing child and adult learning, and there’s a ‘healthy holiday club’ in school holidays, where children who are eligible for free school meals can continue to access healthy lunches, as well as taking part in arts, crafts and sports. It is also home to third sector services, such as a community café, mental health club, drop-in for carers and a suit swap-shop.
The Solution
We led on design and development of the centre, alongside our public sector partners, and we now provide strategic and operational estate management services to ensure the facility keeps providing the best service for patients and maximising value for money.
The co-location of services within the centre is transformative for integrated care, and is aligned to the needs of the area, reducing pressure on acute services and other social services.
The result
The Reginald Centre exemplifies a building in the heart of a community which can enable multiple partners to come together, playing a key role in shifting the dial away from treatment of sickness to prevention to that everyone can live well for longer.
“It’s fantastic having a one-stop-shop, putting people and patients at the centre of services. 80% of the problems of our patients are not medical, they are social problems, and the social solutions are here in The Reginald Centre, because good investment in social interventions make the medical work a lot easier.”
