Getting much-need funding for an ambulance service
DATE: 2025 | LOCATION: YORKSHIRE | PROJECT AREA: STRATEGIC ADVISORY | PROJECT STATUS: COMPLETED
When Yorkshire Ambulance Service needed to secure capital investment for a new ambulance station, they turned to our experts with deep sector knowledge to support the development of an outline and full business case.
The challenge
Yorkshire Ambulance Service wanted to replace three outdated stations, which had capacity and condition issues, with a newly acquired, refurbished station.
To secure internal funding for the new station, a robust business case in line with HM Treasury’s Green Book model was required to justify the investment and support decision making. Our Better Business Case practitioners were there to help.
The Solution
Firstly, our estates experts performed a critical review of the existing Outline Business Case (OBC), working in partnership with the trust to ensure that fundamental detail was included and well-articulated for all five cases.
Our development of a Full Business Case built on the detail within the OBC and affirmed plans for delivery while also addressing challenges identified as part of the OCB process. Alongside support to develop the business case, our experts were able to impart advice and recommendations to deal with challenges related to planning, procurement and appropriate consultation and engagement to evidence to their Board that the scheme was well-developed and deliverable.
The result
The Full Business Case was approved shortly after it was presented, allowing Yorkshire Ambulance Service to obtain the funding for the project. The team is now in the development and delivery phase of the project, with planning permission having been granted for the much-needed facility.
