Taking our estates forum on the road
Work in estates, and want to talk though current trends in the industry and chat with other like-minded estates professionals? Join us as we take our estates forum on the road!
For several years, through our partnership with Durham & Tees Community Ventures, we’ve been running the annual North East Estates Forum. The forum acts as an opportunity to bring together built environment professionals to explore hot topics in public sector estates, share best practice and facilitate knowledge sharing.
At the latest forum in February, our Chief Executive Emma Bolton, Deputy Strategy Director Caroline Havler and Retrofit Lead Steve Dam, all from the Sewell Advisory team, led thought-provoking presentations on some of the burning issues the estates world is currently debating.
Emma spoke about the role that estates leadership can bring to NHS Trust boards, and what this means for both the estates function, and the wider healthcare system.
Caroline looked at how the public sector can work more collaboratively, through managing people, principles and process, and how stakeholder engagement is crucial to project success.
Steve Dam looked at the crucial role of long term thinking when aiming to achieve net zero in the public estate, and gave examples of how chasing short term goals can actually do more harm than good to your sustainability journey.
The forum was attended by Directors of Estate from NHS Provider Trusts, regional NHS England estates team members, estates leads for NHS organisations and system partners, including Community Health Partnerships and local architects. There was a great deal of enthusiasm and energy in the room, and all of the presentations sparked a healthy discussion, leading to a number of ideas for further exploration, differing views based on personal experiences and a desire to continue the conversation.
After the success of the event in the North East, we’re looking at going on the road to bring the forum to more places, including Hull, Manchester, the East Midlands and South Yorkshire. The forum is an informal and intimate group setting, concluding with an opportunity to network with the Sewell Advisory team and peers across the region.
The next dates will be:
- North West/Manchester, Wednesday 2 April, 11am-12.30pm. Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce office, Manchester City Centre, M3 3WD
- East Midlands, Tuesday 8 April, 11am-12.30pm, Novotel Nottingham (M1 Junction 25), NG10 4EP
- East Yorkshire/Hull, Tuesday 6 May, 11am-12.30pm. Sewell Advisory office, Bridgehead Business Park, Hessle, HU13 0DH
- West Yorkshire, Thursday 19th June, 11am-12.30pm at West Yorkshire Joint Services, Nepshaw Lane South, Morley, LS27 7JQ (M62 Junction 27)
After each event, we’ll be providing a light networking lunch, which you’re welcome to stay for.
